Motion pictures set up how we use technology today. Most of us use some type of motion picture every day. In class we watch informational videos, we use streaming services and even youtube videos all come from the birth of motion pictures.

Before we had motion pictures we started off with cameras. Not everyone owned a camera. In 1826 only the elites and wealthy had to access to photos. Years later a man named Edwerd Muybride  decided to use his cameras to take photos continuously of a horse running. When these pictures were put side by side you could see the images come to life. The motion picture was born. It was only 2.11 seconds long. The name of this movie was Roundhay Garden Scene. This created a new ground for other directors to explore. Next came the Lumiere Brothers. They created multiple short films for people to come and see. One of their most well-known and first motion pictures were called Workers Leaving The Lumiere Factory. The camera was set up outside as people left the factory. People were so in aww just to watch something on film even if it was an everyday action. For many years men and women would gather to watch short films through a little screen.

As the years went on technology grew and so did film. The first feature-length films and talkies started to be produced. One of the first-ever feature-length films was The Story of the Kelly Gang. This was a movie about Ned Kelly and his gang. Throughout the film, they are chased by the police. The first talkie was The Jazz Singer. This was a huge progression in the film industry. People from all around the world were excited to hear about a movie with words.

Film is so much more important than we realize. It set up the technology that we have today and the way that we learn. Film helps us understand cultures and philosophies from all over the globe. It's a way for us to document our history and show generations after us what our lives were like. It also helps us understand the past. We have been able to put speculations of the past into a visual interpretation. Film is also a way for us to express our emotions and connect with those around us. I know I have definitely cried throughout many films. Sometimes we take these amazing forms of technology for granted and don't think about how they came to be.
